How to Avoid Damage to Your HVAC System in Vero Beach, FL

There are certain times of the year when the weather in Vero Beach, FL, seems to fluctuate between hot and cold. During these times, you might need to rely on your HVAC system more often to regulate the temperature inside of your home. Sometimes you may need to warm your house up, and sometimes you’ll need it to cool it down.

Switching Between Cooling and Heating

Some homeowners might wonder if switching between cooling and heating will damage your HVAC system. If only done occasionally, you have nothing to worry about. However, if you’re switching between your cooling and heating systems too often, it could have some damaging effects.

How Switching Hurts Your HVAC System

Constantly switching back and forth between heating and cooling during the same day can put a strain on your HVAC system. In most cases, you’ll be fine with switching between systems. But occasionally, if you switch back and forth too much, it could cause your circuit breaker to trip, and the whole system will shut off.

Another thing that could happen is your AC compressor could lock up, and if this occurs, it’d be in your best interest to contact a senior service technician for air conditioning repairs.

How to Switch Between Systems Safety

If you need to switch between your heating and cooling systems, make sure to do it gradually. Instead of immediately switching it from super hot to super cold, gradually adjust the temperature by a couple of degrees until you reach your ideal temperature. Or turn your air conditioner off completely and your furnace on or vice versa.

Schedule HVAC Maintenance

Even if you’re able to switch between heating and cooling systems without any issues, you should still get your air conditioning system checked regularly to keep it running efficiently. Although you may not see any signs of wear and tear, there may be stuff going on it that only a senior service technician can identify. By choosing not to get consistent maintenance, it could cost you an abundance of money down the road if your AC system starts to malfunction.

Making sure your HVAC system is working efficiently is a huge part of being a homeowner. Contact Miller’s Central Air, Inc. for HVAC maintenance to make sure your system is in optimal running condition.
